The vision for the Community is to be a place where we build new friendships, connections, opportunities, ways of working, and a deeper understanding of the craft – all through the lens of our values.
We aim to impact the lives of our members in the most positive way possible through a number of different initiatives:
We share member content, how-to's, demos, interviews, and office hours on our LinkedIn page and our Youtube channel. Get us in your feed:
The SEO Community is generously run by mostly volunteers and people in the community who share our mission: To make the SEO world a little bit more of an awesome place to be.
Noah is the founder of The SEO Community, and has his hands in almost all facets of the community's operations so we can build something great, together.
Adrienne Kmetz is General Manager and Publisher of The SEO Community.
While Nick LeRoy is a freelance SEO consultant, and owns SEOJobs.com, he is one of Noah's closest advisors too.
Shawn is on board as a moderator and helps with special projects across time and space in The SEO Community.
Arnout Hellemans co-hosts BS Time, the European time zone Community chat on Clubhouse each week.
Liz Bowers is a Contributor to The SEO Community website and host of the monthly Agency meetup.
Mircea helped us launch this community early on and contributed to our email program. He is the host of our weekly Jobs Cohort, and is a regular in our weekly BS Chats.
The Community is a better place to be because these folks generously give their time to make it so.
In January 2021, we were feeling isolated. We'd all been on lockdown, under stress, with uncertainty all around us.
The audio chat app Clubhouse just launched, and a few of us SEOs signed up out of curiosity. We started opening rooms to talk shop, and before long there were multiple SEO groups meeting on a daily basis.
The cool thing was, you could open a room and people would join it. Sometimes a lot of people. People whose names you only saw in blog posts about SEO. And now here you are in a room with them, and they're actually listening to you.
I kept opening a room every day, and every day new people would join it. The same folks would show up every day. I'd invite lurkers in the shadows to come on the mic and share. It filled up with real people and real stories, and we laughed a lot. It was not a fun time for many, and so many of my laughs during that period came from the Clubhouse.
We learned about the craft. We learned about each other. It became a really special place.
It reminded me a little bit of my teen years, talking on the phone for hours with friends – it brought me back to a comfort zone in a very uncomfortable time. We went pretty deep, sharing personal challenges, stories, and emotional moments. It concentrated the depth of our friendships over months, not years.
As the pandemic wore on, we decided on a weekly date and time and kept it running, even as we got back out into the world.
I want this to feel like sitting around the campfire, shooting the shit, I told the group one day. Every week, this was a place you could come to have a laugh with some familiar voices.
Then we started getting together in real life, and meeting each other at conferences and meetups. It felt like meeting my old friends... Some magical moments that were a reaffirmation of the space we created.
We're a big kid Community now: Mainly a Slack group, with live events online and in real life. Now there are more ways to engage with other SEOs than ever, and we'll be crossing 5k members before we know it.
This community is just the start. Members like you are what make it what it is today. Join the group, step out of your comfort zone, and meet some other curious and friendly people just like you. Who knows – you may make some lifelong friends.
Rock on,
Noah
