Find answers from our community's knowledge in seconds.

Log in to the archive.

A valuable new feature inside The SEO Community: We've built an AI-powered archive that understands what you're actually looking for and surfaces the most relevant community discussions, complete with citations so you can dive deeper into any thread.

Two ways to search

Standard Search

  • Fast keyword matching
  • Find exact phrases
  • Browse all matching messages
  • Best for: specific terms, names, URLs

AI Search

  • Understands your question
  • Synthesizes multiple discussions
  • Provides summarized answers
  • Best for: Summaries of consensus, concepts, advice, "how do I..."

How to use AI search inside the Archive

  1. When you open the archive, you'll see a search box with two mode buttons: Search and Ask AI.
  2. Click "Ask AI" to switch to AI mode, then type your question naturally, just like you'd ask a colleague.
  3. Press Enter to submit your question, or click the "Ask" button.
  4. Click through the numbered citations to read the original full thread.
Give it a sec:  AI search takes a few seconds to analyze relevant messages and generate a response.

Try questions that ask about viewpoints or experiences, like:

  • What's the community's take on AI overviews affecting CTR?
  • How do people here handle international SEO with hreflang?
  • What tools does everyone recommend for technical audits?
  • Has anyone dealt with a manual action for unnatural links?
  • What's the best approach to migrate a site without losing rankings?

A closed LLM that sources discussions for answers

When AI search finds relevant discussions, it provides a synthesized answer based on actual community messages. Every response includes numbered citations like [1], [2], [3] that link back to the original messages, for example:

Several community members have reported success with staged migrations. The consensus is to start with lower-traffic sections first [1][3], implement proper 301 redirects [2], and monitor GSC closely for the first 2-3 weeks [4][5].

Click any citation number to jump to that source message. You'll see who said it, which channel it was in, and when it was posted. From there, you can click through to view the full thread in the archive.

Under the roof: How it works

Here's the step-by-step of what happens when you ask a question:

  1. Query Enhancement. Your question is automatically expanded to understand its full context. If you type "GSC," the system knows to also look for "Google Search Console." Same for dozens of common abbreviations we use in the industry.
  2. Semantic relevance. Instead of just matching keywords, the system converts your question into a mathematical representation that captures its meaning. This lets it find relevant discussions even if you use different words in your prompt.
  3. Finds related messages. The system searches through all archived messages to find the 100 most semantically similar discussions in under a second.
  4. AI synthesis. The relevant messages are sent to Google's Gemini AI, which reads through them and writes a coherent summary. The AI is strictly instructed to only use information from the messages, never its general knowledge, and to cite every fact.
  5. Citation linking. Every claim in the response is linked back to specific messages, so you can verify the information and explore the original discussions.

Compatible SEO abbreviations

The AI search recognizes common SEO abbreviations and expands them automatically, for example:

You Type We Also Search For
GSC Google Search Console
GA4 Google Analytics 4
SERP Search engine results page
E-E-A-T Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness
CWV Core Web Vitals
SGE Search Generative Experience, AI Overviews
SF Screaming Frog
DR/DA Domain Rating, Domain Authority

This means you can ask "What causes GSC data discrepancies?" and find messages that mention "Google Search Console" even if they don't use the abbreviation.

Tips for better results

  • Be specific to get more relevant results. Instead of "SEO tips," try "What's the best way to optimize product pages for e-commerce?"
  • Act natural. The AI understands questions. "Has anyone here dealt with a Google penalty?" works better than "Google penalty recovery."
  • Use standard search for exact matches. Standard search is faster and will find exact matches for specific URLs or names. AI search is better for conceptual questions.
  • Check the citations. The AI synthesizes information from multiple messages. Click the citation links to read the full context and see the complete thread discussions.

Questions you might have

Source data goes back to July 1 2023

The archive includes messages going back to the beginning of our community, with daily syncs adding new messages. Older historical data may be added over time.

Private channels or DMs are not included

No. The archive only includes messages from public channels that the community bot has access to. Private channels and direct messages are not linked.

Why does AI search take a few seconds?

The AI needs to analyze up to 100 relevant messages and synthesize a coherent response. This typically takes 3-6 seconds. Standard keyword search is instant.

Can the AI make things up?

The AI is specifically instructed to only use information from actual community messages and to cite every claim. If it can't find relevant information, it will tell you rather than guessing. Always check the citations for important decisions. Don't take anything it says as official advice or a guarantee. Do your own due diligence.

Limits: 10 per minute for AI search, unlimited for Standard

AI search is rate-limited to 10 queries per minute to ensure fair usage for everyone. Standard search has no limits.

What if I can't find what I'm looking for?

Try rephrasing your question or using different terminology. If the archive doesn't have relevant discussions, consider asking in the appropriate Slack channel, your question might spark a valuable new conversation.

Ready to try it? Head to the Archive section and switch to AI mode. Ask your first question and see what the community has to say.
