Optimizing for Grokipedia: Insights and Strategies

Go to the Best Of the SEO Community.

TL;DR

  • Grokipedia heavily relies on Wikipedia and first-party sources - It plagiarizes Wikipedia content and is willing to cite first-party sources, making it relatively easy to influence if you have a Wikipedia page (though meeting Wikipedia's notability requirements is the first hurdle).
  • Track and categorize changes systematically - Baseline the current article, track changes with tools like VisualPing, categorize citations and sources, and monitor what triggers updates through the "see edits" feature to understand patterns and correlations with ORM activities.
  • Edit requests have mixed success so far - Some users report no success getting edit requests approved (even for simple citation additions), and rejected suggestions may show up in edit history; Grokipedia also uses web search to verify information and may reference old Common Crawl data.

I’m reluctantly typing this, but who has insights on optimizing for Grokipedia?

I do. It plagiarizes Wikipedia and is willing to cite first-party sources. Soooo honestly it's very easy right now

(Getting a Wikipedia page might be your first hurdle as you will need to meet notability requirements)

The area I’m looking at has a couple of entities with Wikipedia pages but not (yet) Grokipedia pages. There are several mentions so I’ll take a closer look at how the citations match up.

Yeah the "see edits" is pretty telling and it uses web search to "check"

@user serious question: what’s the upside of getting into grokipedia? citations by grok?

And if you're guessing like me, odds are they have copies of common crawl data because there's some really old citations that gets referenced

@user A client didn’t appreciate how they were unflatteringly described in Grokipedia. Would rather not be there. But now that they are there, they are curious about the inputs.

Question: did anybody had success editing the existing articles there and getting links?

So since this is a more serious inquiry than I thought, and everything I've shared is observational for now. Here's my thinking:

1. Take a baseline of the article today. Categorize the citations and sources.
2. Start tracking changes on the page you care about. A free version of visualping alerts should do just fine.
3. When you get the email alerts, start categorizing the change mentioned in see edits to gather data.
4. You now have a baseline, dates where changes are made, and the types of changes and sources added on one article.
Repeat 1-4 with a few other entities your client wants you to do work on. Maybe an ideal listing, a competitor's listing, etc. Teach this to someone junior after the workflow is done and/or create an agent for bonus points if orchestrating an agent team is more of your thing.

Correlation here is good enough as long as the goal is to work on core ORM activities with an understanding that there is a probability it is correlated to changes in Grokipedia.

@user I've tried submitting edit requests and no luck so far. The requests I make are that Grok is leaving a brand mention and I am just asking it to cite the brand with the URL.

@user, does the rejection show up in the edits history? I see at least some rejected suggestions are listed.

Interesting that the citation links are tagged noreferrer. Would think they would want the credit.
