What are everyones thought on post titles.. long ones.
One of our clients had a Press Release go out, and wanted it posted on their website. the title is 120 characters, which made the URL become 135 (with the added dashes)
Is this an SEO red flag? Should our team be focused on dialing down the titles moving forward? Ive read places that the titles should be within 50-60 ????

There isn't a penalty or anything for having a long title. Google will truncate to fit in the SERPs trying to choose the best part of the title that most likely fits the search query and intent.
Google may also choose to rewrite the title completely based on the content of the page.

I've experimented with longer titles and don't shy away from them - if they are relevant, oftentimes Google will pick the searched KW from the title and show it, even if it is near the end of the title tag.

50-60 is the limit that will appear in the SERP though

I am! @Shawn Huber summed up my thoughts pretty well.
• I don't love a long hyphenated URL. I would make that more succinct, but it's also not a big deal.
• I DO love a long keyword stuffed title tag, though. Make the first 60 characters a nicely written and compelling title, and then feel free to stuff the hell out of the back end of it with your keywords. Google uses the whole title for rankings.
• Also make sure your H1 on the page matches that nice first 60 characters, because Google will often rewrite long titles with the H1 - but they still use the original title for rankings!
So a keyword stuffed title is a win-win IMO. You get the ranking benefits of the keywords in the title, and then Google will do you the favour of cleaning it up in the search results for you by rewriting it to match your H1.
