I have a B2B SaaS client that wants to appear more prominently in LLMs (mainly ChatGPT). Anyone have resources they can share on getting the job done?
We're already getting traffic from ChatGPT but don't appear in commercially-intent queries like "What's the best [category] software?"

Crappy response, but rank higher in traditional organic. Can try to dig up the study tomorrow but it’s a crazy high percentage of page one, especially top three results that appear in AIO.
At the end of the day AIO isn’t much different than getting a featured snippet.

You can also create your own “best of” articles and conveniently place yourself on top. IMO they are scraping the commercial investigation pages for “best of” queries, and not formulating a response themself

Second this. The better your rank for traditional seo the better you’ll (potentially) do with AIO

Agree with above, though I'd love to partner with anyone who wants to co-research/co-write, and then co-market/co-promote, a deep dive into this. There have to be some more granular action items we can take here, IMO, @Chris Tweten.
Fwiw, like you, we're already getting traffic from ChatGPT, but unlike you we have not yet received feedback on search intent.

Take a look at the sources for the results. From what I have heard (not seems myself for a client because I don't have a SaaS client, but seems to correlate with my own searches) getting into the pages on SERP results that get cited has a positive impact, which really should be part of a broader marketing effort anyway. Along with getting your own page ranking there.
However, I question if these basic best of questions are being asked on LLMs. Perhaps it depends on the product. I find myself giving much more specific instructions to find what I want, including pricing, specific features and pain points, application/use case/industry, etc. I'd make sure you're surfacing that content as much as possible for context.

I don't know any resources. What I do know is the LLMs heavily depend of NLP.
Check all your content, incl. social media, through NLP algorithms to see what they understand (which entities they connect it with; what facts it can extract).
Further pay very close attention to the language your customers use and mimic this on your content. Even write the basically same content in multiple variations for that different language that different buyer personas are using. - That will make you content align (in vector space, etc.) with the buyers queries and instructions.
AI = LLMs are very early and too fast evolving to see good trends yet on optimization. I'd recommend when you have your customer's language, track the queries and see if you are recommended and relevant (for that it needs clear branding). Beware that it is a statistics game, because LLM's give different answers every time.

@Crystal Carter did a great talk on this topic at BrightnoSEO and she seems to have summarised the main points in this article:
Learn how to optimize your brand's visibility in LLMs like ChatGPT and Gemini by understanding the types of LLMs, how they generate answers, and how you can get mentioned.

The following idea should help your client appear more prominently in LLMs, specifically ChatGPT, in this case, and could be applicable to other LLMs (assuming the given implementation supports a similar capability):
If it makes sense given what your client provides, consider writing a GPT that offers some solution to a problem people have.
It’s easy enough to get moving with something like this and you can provide a backlink to the client’s website in the GPT where people can navigate if they are so inclined.
If the GPT is successful (in that people are using it), any traffic that manifests on the client’s website due to use of the solution will presumably be very well targeted.

Thomas, are you saying that creating a custom GPT with a link in its instructions influences the output of broader (non custom GPT) use of ChatGPT?

@Mika Lepistö No definitely not — was just offering an adjacent idea that I thought might be helpful.

@Chris Tweten I think digital PR will help you here too. Getting on other lists & being semantically mentioned as a leader in the category

I think they are taking many inputs from different sites who’s already ranking high ( scrapping top results and show it on it’s Generative search results ) but one think I notice it format and construct response itself @Andy Strager
